Christian Dior, born in 1905 in Granville, Normandy, is one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century. After studying political science, he opened an art gallery before turning to fashion. In 1946, he founded his own fashion house in Paris, supported by the industrialist Marcel Boussac. From 1947, Dior revolutionized fashion with his first collection, introducing the “New Look”: silhouettes with rounded shoulders, cinched waists, and long, flared skirts, contrasting with the austere fashion of the post-war period. This style restored femininity and elegance to women, marking a major turning point in the history of fashion.
Throughout his career, Dior presented various innovative lines, such as the “H Line” in 1954, which offered straighter silhouettes. He was also the first designer to systematically pair his creations with coordinated accessories, such as shoes, bags, and perfumes, thus establishing a diverse luxury empire. After his death in 1957, the House of Dior continued to thrive under the direction of renowned designers, including Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano, and more recently, Maria Grazia Chiuri.
